“Culture as a Diplomatic Tool”

On Wednesday, 23 August 2017, the 2nd CREATIVE CAFE “Culture as a Diplomatic Tool” was held at Senshin-an, Yamagata City.
We welcomed Mr. Koki J. Fukasaku who have experience working at the Embassy of Japan in the United States and is currently specialized in international relations at the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management, as a guest speaker. From his experience at the embassy, he talked about “what culture is” and “how culture relates to diplomacy”.
The most interesting part of his talk was that he explained that a photo can deliver an important message, and the use of a photography is different from Japan and the U.S.. Moreover, I was so impressed by his saying “In diplomacy, anyone can take advantage from culture”.
It became a very energetic CAFE where participants actively joined the discussion. We all enjoyed nice herb tea from Peru and a huge watermelon as well. The event was introduced on Yamagata Newspaper published today, 25 August 2017. Please have a look!
