What is Yamagata Artists-in-Residence?

“Yamagata Artists-in-Residence” is a project inviting domestic and international creators to support their creative activities during their stay and to facilitate interactions with the local community.

For artists, Yamagata’s nature, climate and culture inspire their creative activities, which helps them create new works. For local residents, interacting with the artists and seeing their works gives them opportunity to rediscover the charm of the area they live in.

We also hold exchange events with citizens, providing opportunities for mutual learning.

The artist for the 2024 fiscal year is Teresa C. Freitas, a photographer from Portugal.
